A time comes when we get a little bored of the same things, no matter how much we may love a room or an entire house.
A time comes when we get a little bored of the same things, no matter how much we may love a room or an entire house. Is your room too boring for you? Before you think of planning a whole redesign even if you can afford it, it is important to consider some small changes, some of which might work well for you.
For those corners that you like the least or those that do not work well with you every day, you can do a little moving around, rotating, stacking, adding or subtracting items and this might give you desirable end results.
The following are 5 tips to help you make any room better:
1. Create some room for your furniture
Avoid over stuffing the room with furniture or pieces that you do not need. Place fewer but quality pieces and your room will look much bigger.
2. Choose the right paint colour
It is important to choose those colours that compliment your furniture, rugs and upholstery. There are many colours available, and they come in various shades, tints and tones all depending on the source of the light.
3. Update your lighting
Different layers of lighting create interests, intrigue and variety. An evenly lit room makes everything stand out. Highlight some focal points and add some light. Add some general ambience and lower lighting such as table lamps and so on.
4. Choose the best furniture arrangement on the rag
You can arrange your furniture on the rug using three different methods.
a) All on: This involves placing all the furniture legs on top of the rug, if it is large enough. Make sure to leave a gap on the floor surface of all four sides of the rug, at least 12 to 18 inches. This kind of arrangement is ideal for a larger rug.
b) All off: This keeps all the furniture legs off the rug especially if you have a smaller room. However, make the rug appear as if it is touching the front legs of each sitting piece. This design works well with a patterned or textured rug.
c) Front on: This allows only the front legs of the furniture on the rug. This ties the arrangement together visually to create some more space and a feeling of openness.
5. Update your collectables
Try adding something that can bring your room back to life, for instance, flowers or plants, candles, etc. Remove all the hanging pieces that do not fit.
By using the above tips, you will be transforming your once dull room into something likeable and worthwhile without having to call for professional help.
