It is extremely straightforward to create a simple pond in your garden.
Before you create an area of natural beauty in your garden, it is important that the following points are considered:

Making an Ideal Pond
Marking out – Make sure the perimeter of the pond is clearly laid and marked out. You can accomplish this by using string, wire or by simply letting sand run through your fingertips to create a clear border.
Take away all turf from the intended area and place it somewhere neatly, so that it will not hinder the pond making process.
Digging: Dig out the area with a strong spade to the depth of the primary shelf. Blot the area of the shelf with string, wire or by using sand.
Hollow out the centre of the pond and add in any additional shelves if necessary. Alternatively, keep digging until your intended depth has been met. Make sure each shelf is level.
Keeping Wildlife Involved: Place the dug out soil to a safe area of the garden. Check the edges of the pond, making sure that all original specifications have been adhered to. It is ideal to leave one edge of the pond as a gentle slope so garden animals such as hedgehogs can climb out if they inadvertently fall in.
Although a pond can be a fantastic addition to most gardens, actually getting one dug in can create a massive amount of mess. Make sure to have a skip at the ready so it doesn’t look like a giant mole has been making themselves at home in your garden.
