Spring is the time when gardeners can finally venture back into the garden and get busy.
In order to ensure good growth, it is important to prune the unwanted and dead branches of shrubs and trees in the garden. Dead perennial foliage that is left over from last season should be cut back, while you should also prune roses just before they start to bud. Make sure that you clear all of the debris so that new life has plenty of room to flourish.
If you have fruit trees in your garden, this is the perfect time to give them a little tender loving care. Prune the fruit trees before their buds start to blossom in order to ensure a full crop of fruit during the summer months. Make sure that you pick up and remove all of the prune clipping so that they do not little the grass underneath and make it difficult to cut when it grows in the spring and summer.
Dead leaves and other types of debris tend to gather in drainage ditches and other drainage areas during the winter months, causing them to become blocked. In order for spring seedling to thrive they need well drained soil and this is the easiest time of year to clear debris before it becomes a problem.
Dead leaves and other debris also needs to be removed from the lawn by raking it. Raking the lawn helps to get air into the soil, which will in turn help the soil to soak up moisture and cause the grass to thrive. Bare spots in the lawn should be raked with a metal rake before seeding. You can then sprinkle these bare patches with grass seed, taking care to make sure that it is spread evenly.
