The charge will only be applicable for large stores and chains, the proceeds of which will be donated to designated charities.<\/p>\n<p>The move is based on the opinion that even though plastic bags are only used for a few minutes, they take hundreds of years to fully degrade. Plastic bags when unsafely disposed of also pose a range of threats to wildlife.<\/p>\n<p>The move is also based on information produced by the Welsh; plastic bags have had a 5p charge in Wales since 2011 and they have since seen a 75% decline in the use of plastic bags.
