There’s no better time to tidy up your New Year’s resolutions with a bit of recycling – good for your home, good for your soul and good for our planet!
1. Get yourself organised! Do you have efficient systems for recycling along with the ones your local authority have in place? One easy way to ensure your refuse is recycled is by having separate containers for your waste – try an old plastic box or bucket outside your back door so that paper, glass and metal doesn’t get lazily lobbed into your kitchen bin.

2. Simplify your life and your cupboards. Most of us have far more than we really use. Have an annual audit of your possessions especially in your wardrobes. The general principle is, if you haven’t worn it for a year or more, get rid! Look out for charity bags that you can fill and leave outside your door: even tatty old rags can get shredded and recycled into filling materials.
3. Don’t dispose – donate! If you don’t need it any more, the chances are someone else will. Old furniture can be left outside with a ‘Take Me!’ sign on – you’ll be amazed to see it whisked away by someone who may have a funky up-cycle project in mind. Use Facebook and Freecycle sites to post items like old mattresses – many people can’t afford to buy new and will be glad to take them off your hands. Even humble items such as large packing boxes are always in demand from people moving home.
4. One in, one out! A great principle for post-festive periods is to reflect on what has been replaced. If you’ve been fortunate enough to find some gadgets and gizmos under the Christmas tree, recycle your old ones instead of stashing them in a drawer. Grab a little cash for them on Ebay, or pop in and make a local charity shop happy.
5. Get your garden green! Are you making the most of your green waste? A compost bin can be set up any time of year, and a wormery is a particularly efficient way to turn your waste food into goodness for the ground. Your veg patch or flower beds will thank you for it, and so will Mother Earth.

[32
303,191,313
post-818","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-recycling-2","tag-home-recycling","tag-new-year","tag-new-year-resolutions
["GET
